General Course Rules:
  • Must start your first frame by 1:00pm!
  • Extra balls are counted as a continuation of the current ball being played.
  • In most cases, where possible, extra balls will be turned off.
  • Any rulings not addressed by these rules will refer to the PAPA/IFPA tournament rules from http://www.ifpapinball.com/rules
  • Once a player reaches the target score, they should drain their current ball and record their score and plunge any remaining balls to keep things moving.
  • Tilting another players ball will result in an automatic score of 0 awarded to the offending player for that frame.
  • The player whose ball was tilted will replay the frame after the group completes their game, ONLY if the player did not already record their score for that frame.
  • The affected player will not be allowed to do better than their previous attempt at the frame. For example, if the offense happens on ball 1, the affected player will start a fresh game. If the offense happens on ball 2, the next ball will be a continuance of their previous effort. If the offense happens on ball 3, a provisional ball will be awarded that can be added to the players score from balls 1 and 2.
  • Slam tilting a game in progress will result in an automatic score of 0 awarded to the offending player for that frame. A second offense will result in a disqualification from the entire tournament.
  • Bang backs and death saves are not allowed.
  • No practicing on tournament games once play begins. Violation of this will result in a warning followed by disqualification for a repeated offense.
  • Once a player reaches the target score, they should drain their current ball and record their score and plunge any remaining balls to keep things moving.
  • Practice is from 11:00am-12:00pm. After 12:00pm, no games are available for practice while the tournament is in progress. First violation of this will result in a warning, second violation will result in disqualification.
Scoring:
  • Target scores and pin count charts will be posted on each machine.
  • Each player will have three balls to reach the indicated score.
  • There is a maximum of 3 balls per frame.
  • Remember, any extra ball is a continuation of the current ball being played.
  • Reaching the indicated score on ball 1 will count as a strike.
  • Reaching the indicated score on ball 2 will count as a spare.
  • After ball 1, a pin count is recorded on the score sheet based on a percentage of the target score achieved.
  • After ball 3, a pin count is again recorded on the score sheet based on a percentage of the target score achieved, MINUS the pin count from ball 1.
  • The next player is always responsible for recording the score of the previous player.
  • Once a player reaches the target score, they should drain their current ball after their score is recorded and plunge any remaining balls to keep things moving.
  • 10th FRAME:
    • All players/groups will play the same machine as the 10th frame.
    • Bowling scoring is in effect for the 10th frame.
    • A player getting a strike will get 2 bonus balls on a fresh game.
    • A player getting a spare will get 1 bonus ballon a fresh game.
    • If a player scores two strikes in a row on the 10th frame, they will receive their second bonus ball on a fresh game.
Qualifying Round:
  • Players will be put in groups of 2, 3, or 4, depending on turn out and time constraints.
  • Each player in the group will play for a target score indicated on the machine.
  • Each player will have three balls to reach the indicated score.
  • Each game counts as a single frame.
  • Once a group completes a frame it will move to the next frame.
  • Groups must progress from game to game in order!
  • The qualifying round will be 10 frames.
  • There is a maximum of 3 balls per frame.
  • Remember, any extra ball is a continuation of the current ball being played.
  • Once a player reaches the target score, they should drain their current ball after their score is recorded and plunge any remaining balls to keep things moving.
  • Play order should be rotated on every game.
  • At the end of qualifying (10 frames), the top half of all players with the highest scores will advance to the playoffs.
  • In the case of needed tie breakers, the total number of strikes will be added up per player. The player with the most strikes will advance.
  • If each player has the same amount of strikes, then spares will be counted. If still tied, scores of 9 will be counted, and so on.
Finals Round:
  • Top half of the field from qualifying will advance to the finals round.
  • Seeding is based on the scores from qualifying, with the highest total as the top seed.
  • Players will be assigned to a group of 4 according to seed.
  • Each group will play a total of four frames.
  • The two players with the highest score after four frames will advance to the next group, with two players being eliminated each round.
  • If after four frames there are ties, the tying players will play frames, one at a time, in order, until the tie is broken.
  • Matches will continue until there is one remaining player.
  • Eliminated players will play a final high score ranking game each round to determine their final ranking.
  • The final remaining player will be declared the champion.
